Good skin is the perfect palette for make-up. Wash your skin twice a day with a cleanser made for your skin type. Your skin type is easy to figure out: oily skin is shiny and acne prone, combination skin is dry in some places and oily in other spots, dry skin is usually flaky and feels tight, while normal skin (considered the ideal) is the perfect balance of neither oily or dry all over.

Every morning or once a day after cleansing, use a scrub also made for your skin type. I love St.Ives scrub and would recommend it to anyone. Before going to bed, after washing your face, use an acne spot treatment on any pimples you have. Your final step twice a day is to moisturize. Even oily skin types should do this but make sure to choose a lightweight formula for acne prone skin.

Always wash your face and moisturize before applying make-up. If you fail to do this you can cause blemishes. Make sure that all your make up tools and brushes, as well as your fingers are clean. Make-up brushes should be washed with shampoo or soap once a week. A sunscreen that's at least SPF 15 will help you prevent wrinkles, sunspots, and skin cancer. Try buying a moisturizer that includes it.

To even out your skin, choose either a tinted moisturizer or light foundation. Tinted moisturizers are like very light feeling foundations that usually include SPF 15 or more, moisturize your skin, and give you a light wash of color. They are perfect for normal or dry skin. They won't help cover blemishes but will even out your skin. If choosing a foundation, make sure to pick one that is oil free and matches your skin-tone. Apply it with a foundation brush or a wedge sponge.

The next step is to apply concealer on any blemishes and under eye circles. Choose one that is oily free and preferably cream instead of stick or liquid. Cream will last long like stick concealer but will be easier to blend like the liquid kind. Buying a concealer brush will help your concealer go one better. For under your eyes choose one that is a shade lighter than your skin. Prevent your make-up from wearing off and erase shine with loose, translucent powder. Apply it with a powder brush. If you have shiny skin, carry blotting paper with you.

To add color to your face and make you look healthy, blush is essential. Cream blush is great for dry skin, powder is right for normal, and gel is good for oily skin. If you have combination skin, choose the one that is closest to the skin type on your cheeks. A quality blush brush is essential for both cream and powder blush. Make sure to not apply too much. Simply smile and apply it to the apples of your cheeks in a circle. Too little is better than too much. Light skinned girls should choose pink blush, beige skin looks best with peach, olive skin and rose look great together, bronze skin should choose a darker pink-brown and darker skinned women should choose a bright color (orange might look weird in the container but it looks great on very dark skin.)

Bronzer is also great. Choose a golden color for light skin and a bronze shade for medium skin. Apply it to your forehead, your cheekbone, the tip of your nose, your chin, and the sides of your jaw. It can both add color to your face and give your face the appearance of good bone structure. Spray on bronzers work great but they are difficult to find. If you can't buy one, choose a powder or gel bronzer. Finish off the make up on your skin with a highlighter. Face highlighters are liquid and a light color. Apply it on top of your cheekbones and on your brow bones.

On your eyes, make sure that powder, an eye primer, concealer, or foundation is applied on your eyelids. This will help your eye-make last. Apply a medium shade of eyeshadow on the lid. Shimmer helps your eyes look larger. Always buy a separate eyeshadow brush. Use a shade of purple, gray, or copper to bring out green eyes. Blue eyes look best with brown, peach, or pink shadow. Brown eyed girls should use gold, bronze, or green shadow. To intensify the look, add eyeshadow that is one or two shades darker on your creases. A light, shimmery shade in white or vanilla for lighter skin or gold or bronze for darker skin looks great on your brow bone and in the inner corners of your eyes.

Line your eyes on the top and bottom at the outer corners, making sure that they connect. To intensify your eyes, you can apply the same liner on the inside of your eyelids. White eyeliner used like that can create the illusion of larger eyes. If you have light skin use gray, navy, or brown liner. Medium skin should use dark brown, black, or charcoal gray. Dark skinned girls look good in jet black, purple, or any bright or dark color. Eyeliner can be in pencil form, liquid, powder, or gel. The pencil kind is easy to use, liquid is difficult and best for those of us who are good with make-up and have a steady hand, powder is long lasting and natural looking, and gel is the longest lasting.

Finish your eye look by curling your lashes and applying mascara. Buy an eyelash curler-it will make your eyes look much more open. If you have very straight lashes you can help curl them by heating up the curler with your blow-dryer. Clamp the curler at the bases of your lashes for 10 seconds, at the middle for another 10 seconds, and finish at the ends for a final 10 seconds. Apply brown mascara if you have light hair and light skin; dark brown if your hair is light and your skin medium or your hair is medium colored and your skin is light; and black if you have medium or dark hair and medium to dark skin. Move the brush from the base to the tips horizontally back and forth. Apply two coats to the top lashes and once coat to the bottom lashes.

The last and easiest step to your make-up is your lips. Lip liner is not necessary and is often done wrong. Instead, apply a clear or light tinted gloss to make your lips look fuller. Lip plumpers also help increase the size of your lips. Pink is good for fair skin, peach with beige skin, pink-brown with olive skin, caramel with bronze skin, and rose with dark skin.If you have full lips that you'd like to show off, choose a bright color lipstick in red. If you have fair skin, a blue-red looks good; medium skin looks best with red-orange; and dark skin looks right in brick red. Red lips do have a tendency to age though, so use sparingly. And always pair dark lips with light eye make-up and bright or dark eyeshadow with clear or light lip gloss!
