Acid Reflux Treatment Through Prevention PDF Print E-mail
Medication is not the first option to consider when suffering from disease. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is not an exception. Research has showed that 44 % of people suffering from Acid reflux have reported improvements after having changed their lifestyles. Here are some advices to consider…

Avoid taking or reduce your intake of caffeine, chocolate, mint, alcohol as well as carbonated drinks. Those foods and drinks are known to increase the secretion of acids in your stomach.

Proteins are known to strengthen muscles. As acid reflux is about a muscle valve, increasing your intake of protein will strengthen your muscles. Prefer sources such as poultry or fish to beef.

Moreover, you should increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables as they contain essential vitamins. You should however prevent the acidic ones such as citrus, lemons and oranges.

If you suffer from acid reflux, you would agree that the symptoms are greater at night. To prevent that, you should perform light exercises after your meals. You should in no case take-in any foods two hours before going to bed. Your sleeping position also matters too! I would recommend that you elevate your bed about 15 centimeters at its head. Moreover, use boards and supports to raise the upper part of your body. Finally, lie on your left side.

If you are already suffering from Acid Reflux, you should stop smoking now! You should also stop wearing tight clothes. Those people who are overweight should make their best to reduce the amount of foods they take in per day.

My final advice would be chewing gums half an hour after your meals. Chewing will increase your saliva production which in turn will neutralize the acids in your stomach. In fact, gum is only an alternative, you might chew anything else.

If you don’t experience any change in your state, I would recommend that you consult your doctor. He is the best person who will help you by prescribing the appropriate medications.
