Reducing stress and being more relaxed is also very important to staying healthy.
Nevertheless there are still things you can do to help reduce the amount of stress in your life. Many people find that different forms of meditation helps them a lot. Or relaxing breathing exercises. Sometimes hospitals and medical centers sponsor classes like these to help teach people how to relax. Activities like tai chi and yoga also help some people to relax and are a good way to exercise too. For many a short walk around the neighborhood can be a great way to wind down after work. Its much healthier than watching T.V. too! Many women enjoy taking a long, quiet bubble bath when they have the time. Applying scented lotions or oils to you skin may also help many people. The bath is also a wonderful place to light scented candles or incense. Listening to light music while in the bath or anytime can be very calming. Reading a good book can help to get your mind off of what is bothering you. One of my favorites is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Lots of women really like Jane Austen books too. Observing or listening to the sounds of nature is very peaceful for many people. Examples include watching a butterfly glide peacefully though the air and watching wild birds eating at a feeder in the snow. Back rubs and massages can be helpful if you have someone to give them to you. Hugs, too, can go a long ways towards helping us feel more at peace. Something that should not be overlooked is a good laugh! Laughing helps us relax both mentally and physically and can also help to put our daily stresses into perspective. While watching a lot of T.V. is not recommended by anyone if there are some shows or comedians that really get you laughing - by all means watch them! That is the gift that comedians give to society - they make us laugh so hard our faces hurt and they help us forget about our problems at least for a short while. And don't forget to laugh at yourself too! Most of us worry and take too seriously things that we shouldn't. |
