Consistency in exercise PDF Print E-mail

I've started exercise programmes before and given up - how can I stay motivated to continue?

The main reasons we give up exercising are because it's too hard, too boring or not giving us the results we want. Overcome this by:

  • Involving friends or family. By encouraging each other to exercise you are more likely to commit to it.

  • Find something that you enjoy - think of fun activities that are social as well as active e.g. Latin or tea dancing, drumming or voluntary gardening.

  • Be consistent. Find yourself a way to exercise, any time, any where - try home exercise videos/dvds or simply carry your walking shoes with you where ever you go.

  • Wear a pedometer – this measures how many steps you take in a day - gradually progress up to 10,000 steps a day
