6 Tips to Help Your Child Sleep Better PDF Print E-mail

Children who get plenty of quality sleep will be happier and healthier. By following a few simple tips, you can resolve your children's bedtime problems and stop those middle of the night wake-ups that disrupt the whole family's sleep. The key to your child getting a good night's rest is to focus on routines that encourage good sleep habits. Here are some tips to help your children sleep better:

1. Babies sleep extremely well after a nice bath. Bathing the baby at a particular time regularly will ensure that they sleep well.

2. Make your child's room inviting, decorated to his/her taste, and age-appropriate. The general idea is you want your child to absolutely love his/her room and want to spend time in it!

3. Don’t let your child watch television or play video games right before bed. And avoid eating soda or chocolate near bed time. Also don’t let your child fall asleep while being held, rocked or fed.

4. You could read a story to your baby before making him sleep. Over a period of time he will learn to associate story reading as a cue for bedtime.

5. You can kiss and cuddle your baby for sometime before you put him down to sleep. After sometime he will learn that it is time to sleep.

6. Establish the rule that your child will now sleep in his/her own bed and make no exceptions. Don't weaken to crying or whining.

If you maintain consistency and the rules, your child will be sleeping in his or her bed throughout the night in no time. And, you and your child will both get improved shut eye and be better prepared to face the new day together!
