If you are like me, this is a weakness of yours too. I digest way too much caffeine each day. I probably have at least six or more servings each day. More than I should consume in several days. I drink too much cola. That is my problem. Not only is it loaded with sugar, it has caffeine in it too.
A cup of coffee in the morning to get you going isn't going to hurt. It can help you wake up and be more alert. It can help jump start your day into something worthwhile. Instead of feeling sleepy and tired. Though, if you drink too much caffeine, you can have the opposite effect that you are looking for. It can drain all of your energy and make you feel very tired. It can also cause you to have problems sleeping. This can be a very big problem. Caffeine is addictive. You may not have thought of it that way, but it is. You can get hooked on caffeine. For those of you who enjoy too much coffee or too much soda; you know what I'm talking about if you've ever developed headaches or had the shakes be cause your body is craving caffeine. These are the symptoms of the addictive qualities of caffeine. Your body is telling you that it is craving and needing its next caffeine fix. Indeed, caffeine is a great pick me up. That morning cup of coffee knocks the cobwebs off and puts a little extra bounce in your step. The key is that you use caffeine properly and don't over do it. Side effects can develop when caffeine is overused. And certainly caffeine should never be used for a substitute for getting enough sleep. Particularly in situations where risk is involved such as driving over the road. Understanding how to properly use caffeine is a key to keeping it in perspective. A cup of coffee while cramming for an exam is a great way to re-energize and can help you get through that last chapter. However, grabbing an extra shot of caffeine to keep you more alert while operating a a vehicle or other potentially dangerous machinery is obviously not a good use of caffeine. But what do you use when you need a little pick me up and you don't want to go the caffeine route? When it comes to maintaining your energy level, avoid foods that are high in sugar. When you're feeling a bit sluggish, don't opt for the candy. Drink something other than sodas when you take your lunch break. Keep in mind that foods that are high in sugar may give you an initial boost of energy, but will rebound you back even further into a state of feeling tired. During the day if you feel you must snack then snack on some fruit if you are beginning to feel sluggish. Keeping an apple handy or some other fruit that you can easily eat is a much better alternative to a soda or candy bar. Instead of sodas try drinking choose. This is a much better way to re-energize your energy level. Juices may be a bit more expensive than the sodas but they are well worth the money when it comes to your energy and health. Be creative when it comes to your juice drinks. Try mixing some of your favorite juices together in order to get a different taste and avoid becoming bored with the flavors. Consuming juices to help regain your strength and energy is a much better approach than sodas. Juices will help you maintain your strength throughout the day at a more even level, thus avoiding rebounding with your energy back and forth. The important point to remember about caffeine is common sense and moderation. Having that morning cup of coffee is perfectly okay to do. Just don't let any morning cup of coffee turn into multiple cups of coffee in the morning just to get you started. And above all and never substitute caffeine and sugars for sleep. Don't ever falsely believe that you can readily revive yourself from being tired or overcome any state of tiredness by throwing caffeine at it. Particularly when it comes to driving a car. Caffeine for a quick pick me up is great, just know when it isn't. |
