Treatments For Stuttering And Stammering PDF Print E-mail
I was one of the unfortunate few that went through school having to cope with a speech impediment. As a fully fledged member of the adult world, I am now fully aware that there are many more people in the world that were and are far worse off than me. During the period of my life when I had the stutter I felt as though I was the most unlucky person in the world and would often think; why me? To make matters even worse the so called treatments that were available did absolutely nothing to improve my speech and merely left me even more frustrated. I am happy to report that the therapy for stammering and stuttering has improved some what since then and in this article I will be writing about some of the treatments that are available.

Traditional speech therapy
I first attended speech therapy when I was five years of age and I was still attending at the age of fourteen. Some would call this slow progress, in reality I had not progressed at all. The speech therapists themselves do not believe that there is a cure for stammering and have not had a stutter. As soon as I realised these facts I knew that this type of treatment would never work for me. Stuttering is a very complex area and I believe that only a person who has had a stutter can really understand how it feels etc.

One-to-one speech courses
There are now people who have overcome a stammer/stutter and now teach other people how to achieve fluency by way of speech courses that are on a one-to-one basis.

The courses are typically over a three or five-day period.

Stuttering therapy dvd, audiobook and ebook

Being 2007 there are now many other options available such as a stammering therapy dvd, a stammering therapy audiobook and a stammering therapy ebook.

Things have improved some what since I was a child!
